Fred Olsen’s new Borealis made a mainly quiet (except for Port of Liverpool fireworks) introduction last Monday (5 July) with a three-night trip bound for the Scottish Western Isles. The cruise was remarkable for the wonderful weather and very smooth seas but any chance of using the ship’s tenders to perhaps visit Tobermory were scuttled by the Scottish Government ban on cruise ships.
Fred Olsen’s TV reception licence did not include Euro 2020 football, but strenuous efforts by the Ipswich-based company’s management ensured full coverage and a wonderful atmosphere in the lounges and auditorium. Mutiny was averted. Record bar takings were recorded. But they had to be. It was a maiden voyage.
A full review will appear the next BTN cruise issue Monday 2 August.
