The pandemic has caused a re-alignment of budget holiday capacity in the UK.Accor has added nine hotels under its Ibis Budget brand in Bromley, Bromsgrove, Burton-upon-Trent, Cumbernauld, Dundee, Lancaster, Peterhead, Portishead Harbour and Stansted Airport, following an agreement with Ago Hotels. They were all previously Travelodge hotels.
In January the French-owned group opened the Ibis T5, very close to Junction 14 of the M25 and less than 5min by shuttle bus to the Heathrow terminal.
The brand has grown by nearly 40% in the UK this year, increasing its room count to over 4,700 keys.
Accor recently announced plans to add Ibis properties in Bridgwater (see BTN 5 April) and on Bournemouth’s East Cliff the former Hotel Royale.
