Another Düsseldorf hotel for Ruby

The Munich-based hotel brand Ruby Hotels has opened its third property in Düsseldorf, located in Kasernenstrasse.

The Ruby Luna is set across 13 floors in the former Commerzbank building, located between Konigsallee and Carlsplatz, a short walk from Düsseldorf’s old town and close to the Benrather Strasse train station.

The design is inspired by the 1950s and 1960s eras, with a space theme running throughout the hotel. Features include rockets and space capsules throughout the building, while a former concrete ramp to the basement has been fitted with glass panels to provide a bird’s eye view of the floor below.

The hotel has 206 rooms with features including white finishings, high open ceilings, integrated glass rainfall showers, wood wall panelling, and oak floors.

There is also soundproofing, blackout curtains, “high-quality linen and extra-long and wide custom mattresses”. Each room is equipped with a Marshall guitar amp, allowing guests to plug in their own guitar or borrow one from reception. Guests can also listen to the group’s ‘Ruby Radio’ station.

Outdoor areas include a terrace in front of the main entrance, the Lunar Dunes courtyard which features its own unidentified flying object (UFO), and a 13th floor Observatory Bar offering panoramic views over Düsseldorf.

The bar is the longest of all Ruby properties and will feature gold-tinted glass panes, and terrazzo and flagstone tiles which contrast with the exposed concrete of the public areas. There is also a 24hr bar, café and lounge on the ground floor.

The Ruby describes itself as a “lean luxury” brand that offers an affordable price by “consistently dispensing with superfluous and non-essential items.”

Michael Struck, CEO of Ruby Hotels, commented on the opening:“Düsseldorf is one of the most exciting cities in Germany for Ruby. It’s a no brainer that we would want to be represented here with three hotels and a workspace. Whilst our guests can benefit from a wider choice of availability, locations and experiences, Ruby can benefit from the operational synergies in staffing and purchasing. We think and act in the long term.”

The two other Ruby Hotels’ properties in Düsseldorf are Ruby Coco in the Ko-Galerie shopping centre, and Ruby Leni in Friedrichstadt.

Ruby Hotels was founded in 2013 and the group currently operates eight hotels across Europe, with a further 17 under construction or in the planning phase. The brand recently opened a new hotel in Munich.
