Driving on the Continent

If you are a Brit living abroad, or indeed resident in the UK but planning a driving trip on the Continent, the rules have changed.

The Department for Transport (DfT) has come up with a neat webpage that explains all the changes country by country – all 27.  Each has slightly different rules.

If you live in the EU, you will now not be able to renew your driving licence in the UK.

And British passport holders hiring a car at the gateway, or taking one abroad, may need an international driving licence.

Click below for the definitive British Government list for each of the 27 countries.  Each has slightly different rules.

" And British passport holders hiring a car at the gateway, or taking one abroad, may need an international driving licence." - Surely it's one's driving licence rather than one's passport that determines whether or not one needs an IDP???
