American restarts from Europe

Dallas Fort Worth based American Airlines is making a big effort through the rest of the month and into April to resurrect US to Europe routes.

However a great deal depends on the authorities at either end making the airline and its passenger welcome from the hygienic point of view.  The rules can change overnight, a concern to travellers.

As things stand American plans to restart 10 routes to the US from airports across the UK and Europe including: Barcelona (BCN), Dublin (DUB), Frankfurt (FRA), Heathrow (LHR), Madrid (MAD), Milan (MXP), Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG), and Rome (FCO).

In addition, as part of American’s alliance with Alaska Airlines, the carrier will launch new service from LHR to Seattle (SEA), beginning 30 March, operated on American’s Boeing 777-200. The service will initially operate from LHR T5 three times weekly, until 3 June when the frequency will increase to daily.

“We will be here for when our customers are ready to fly,” said Tom Lattig, American’s vice president EMEA Sales. “With cleanliness and safety top of mind, we have taken extensive steps to ensure it’s safe to travel including earning STAR certification from the Global Biorisk Advisory Council for our entire fleet of aircraft, and all of our Admirals Club lounges. This is testament to the robust Clean Commitment protocols we have instigated over the past year, to ensure our customers feel confident and comfortable when they fly American.”

American was the first US airline to introduce VeriFLY, a mobile health passport which helps customers understand and verify their travel requirements. Customers can use the free VeriFLY app when travelling on American from all international destinations to the US.

I find it interesting that the American airlines are starting up services from Europe to US when we as UK citizens are not yet allowed to travel there. I am missing something? FYI I am aware of current restrictions for people to leave the UK.
