United Airlines ‘Event’

A United Airlines’ Pratt & Whitney-powered Boeing 777 departing the high altitude Denver Airport on Saturday afternoon (20 February) lost an engine and made a successful emergency landing at the same airport.

There were no reported casualties from the 10 crew and 231 passengers.  The aircraft was bound for Honolulu.  Debris from the engine was scattered over the town of Broomfield under the aircraft’s flight path.

At this stage it is too early to speculate on the cause of what seems an engine explosion, the well-trained crew having to continue to fly the aircraft and at the same time stop the fuel supply to the engine.

On board the aircraft all could see the extent of the damage and relay images and video recordings of the proceedings.

United said most of the passengers on Flight 328 took off on a new flight to Honolulu later Saturday.  No persons were injured on the ground but considerable damage to vehicles and buildings was noted.
