Digital inflight retail experience

EasyJet is pushing ahead with an inflight retail platform which will allow passengers to browse and order easyJet Bistro and Boutique products onboard, on their own device.

The trial is being run in partnership with gategroup, a leading provider of pre-order, inflight and post-flight retail services, who have developed the industry-leading ‘ePax’ digital platform with Black Swan Data.

The easy-to-use portal will be accessible through the user’s own device browser which will connect to the onboard wireless network, while in flight mode.  Payment will be made to cabin staff in the usual way.

The trial will run throughout the winter months on selected flights departing from Gatwick this winter offering easyJet’s onboard range of hot and cold drinks, savoury and sweet snacks, as well as deals on a range of luxuries, gifts and travel essentials.

By removing the need for physical menus and brochures the platform has the potential to remove around two million pieces or 100 tonnes of paper a year from the cabin, saving natural resources, reducing waste across the airline and contributing to fuel efficiency through onboard weight reduction, supporting easyJet’s commitment to rapidly reduce waste and reduce its carbon footprint.
