American Airlines’ Scousers at work

With the closing of other international call centres, it may surprise readers to learn that American Airlines’ (AA) biggest operation outside the America's is at Liverpool.  No comments about accents please.

AA is currently operating out of Heathrow T5, something Rhett Workman, Managing Director – Europe & Asia-Pacific, would like to continue once the pandemic is over: “It really does make connections easier".  At the present time interlining passengers staying airside have no testing requirements, although there may be at the destination.  The much-publicised Collison and Swissport facility at T5 is not at this time being used by AA and partner British Airways, or in T2 to the United States.

The airline now flies daily service from Heathrow to Chicago (ORD), Dallas Fort Worth (DFW), Miami (MIA), New York Kennedy (JFK); and Charlotte (CLT) which starts in December.  For the start of the summer season 2021 AA hopes to be flying from Heathrow to Boston and Seattle Tacoma.  Edinburgh and Manchester will both serve Philadelphia.

AA has signed a strategic alliance with JetBlue for JFK but Mr Workman could shed no light on the US, mainly domestic, high grade low-cost carrier and its plans for London.

Hygiene controls are rigidly adhered to but unlike other US carriers passengers are allowed to sit together although the present light loads allow for plenty of space but masks are compulsory.
