Aviators Ball and Aerobility

The 2020 Aviators Ball, from the disabled flying charity Aerobility, is going ahead (Saturday 28 November) and appealing for support.  But not in the usual way.

Normally a sell-out gala event at the Heathrow Sofitel, the highlight of the evening is always the Aerobility Grand Auction, which generates funds so that anyone, with any disability can take to the skies and learn to fly an aeroplane. This not only drives a focus on capabilities but encourages the student to ask the question ‘if I can fly an aeroplane, what else can I do?’ From here, the sky’s the limit.  As JM Barrie said “the moment you doubt whether you can fly, you cease forever to be able to do it.

This year, the Aviators Ball is an @home event and Aerobility is inviting supporters to organise an aviation-themed dinner at home, or any lawful place, with guests up to the legal Covid-19 level – no limit on the drink of course.

With the use of online technology, Aerobility will also provide entertainment for you and your guests throughout the evening.  It is hoped it will become an international event with participants live from ‘Down Under’ as well as North and South America.

The requirement now is gifts for the auction, anything saleable (it does not have to be aviation-related).  Airline flights have always been on offer, likewise accommodation and dining, signed books and memorabilia are also welcome.

Aerobility is a registered charity founded in 1993 offering disabled people, without exception, the opportunity to fly an aeroplane.  It operates a small fleet of aircraft out of Blackbushe Airport and Tatenhill delivering nearly 1,000 respite and training flights every year. Covid-19 has dealt the single biggest threat to the charity, which now needs all our help.
