Europe’s biggest travel group TUI has warned that with the choice of destination largely dependent on government policy it is faced with more severe job cuts.In the United Kingdom and Ireland it has recently closed 166 of 516 shops, with more to follow.
Putting it in perspective the group at the beginning of the year operated within Europe more than 400 hotels 16 cruise ships 150 aircraft and 1,500 travel agencies.
Fritz Joussen, TUI Chief Executive, echoed the views of the travel industry calling for a regional risk assessment rather than a blanket travel policy and for Covid testing to be more widely available on arrival and departure. “This would also help to avoid compulsory quarantine and movement restrictions.”
TUI Group employs 70,000 people in more than 100 countries and has about 28m customers.
