Jersey Airport’s free test

Whilst the mainland airports in the United Kingdom are finding government leadership with Covid-19 controls lacking, this is not the same for Jersey.

Following a press briefing last Thursday (25 September) travellers from non-lockdown parts of the United Kingdom can fly into Jersey without worrying about long-term self-isolation.

At the airport a Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) Covid-19 swab test is free.  Completing an entry form on-line before departing is suggested.

The guidelines are as those set across the EU.  This is a ‘traffic light’ system, which splits countries into red, amber and green according to the risk of infection, and is tailored to specific regions of the UK, France and the Republic of Ireland as well as the ‘Rest of the World’.

The list is comprehensive and is continuously being kept up to date.

Whilst passengers are requested to transfer to their host (hotel or accommodation) the result should come through quicky by email or text and for practical purposes do not interfere with their trip.  A further test is required after five days.

“There has been some clever practical thinking here,” said a regular Island visitor who preferred to remain anonymous.  “I came into Jersey Airport from Southampton, took the test, having completed the one-line form, and was at my usual St Helier hotel within 45 minutes of landing.  I expect the same for my return to Birmingham.”

The Jersey Tourism current campaign says it all:  “We’re ready to welcome you back to our little island and to share our big spirit with you once again. You will find things are a little different here now, quieter and safer. We’ve put new measures in place that ensure the health and well-being of you, your loved ones, and our local community. So come to Jersey, refresh, revitalise and reconnect with nature. Come up for air again. We’re waiting for you”.  No VAT, good weather and some real hotel bargains.

Well done Jersey. I know the numbers are small but at least they are showing some enterprise. I do feel sorry for Heathrow and the others backing their scheme. But Mr Johnson’s record with the airport has always been poor! His constituents are not happy.
