Doncaster Sheffield Airport, the former RAF Finningley, and also at one time Robin Hood Airport, is to gain further Wizz Air destinations and a second Airbus A320 based at the airport. From 22 October Fuerteventura (Gran Canaria), Lanzarote (Tenerife), Lisbon and Eindhoven will be served, all at least twice weekly.
It is 14 years since Wizz first came to Doncaster with aircraft operating from the overseas points. It will now serve 23 airports spread across Europe.
Wizz points out that as part of its operational procedures cabin crew and passengers are required to wear face masks, with cabin crew also required to wear gloves. The aircraft are regularly put through an industry-leading fogging process with an antiviral solution and, following stringent daily cleaning schedule by the airline, all of the aircraft are further disinfected overnight with the same antiviral solution.
Onboard purchases are encouraged to be made by contactless payment. Passengers are requested to follow physical distancing measures introduced by the local health authorities and are encouraged to make all purchases prior to the flight online (eg checked in luggage, Wizz Priority, fast security track), to minimize any possible physical contact at the airport.
Chris Harcombe, Director of Aviation Development at Doncaster Sheffield Airport, said: “Doncaster Sheffield Airport contributes over £60m to the Sheffield City Region, supporting thousands of jobs and it is vital that the UK Government acknowledges and supports airlines and airports so that they can continue to contribute to local economies providing investment and jobs.”
