Accor expands

The continuing Covid-19 pandemic has not stopped the French hotel group Accor from expanding.

Across Northern Europe 14 new hotels have been signed in the first half of 2020 including four in the UK and Ireland.  There are also rumours running in the financial press of a takeover of some Travelodge franchises.

Accor owns and operates brands that cover every segment of hospitality including in the premium segment Fairmont, MGallery, Pullman, Raffles, Sofitel and Swissôtel; in the midscale Novotel, Mercure and Adagio products; and in the economy sector ibis and hotelF1.

The new signings include the first Fairmont in Ireland, the historic Carton House Hotel situated just outside Dublin.  The Tribe Manchester Airport is a 412-room franchised new-build hotel due to open 2022 as reported in BTN 13 April.

A new Mercure signing in Bournemouth has quickly seen the rebranding and refurbishment of the 109-room Queens Hotel in the popular UK seaside resort.  Glasgow will see an ibis hotel in 2022 currently under construction managed by Accor and owned by the same partner as The Tribe next door to the property.
