Air Astana flies to Europe

Air Astana, the national airline of Kazakhstan, in which BAe Systems has a 49% stake, is to resume flights from the capital Nur-Sultan to Frankfurt on 18 August.  No word yet about London.

International services to Amsterdam, Dubai and Kyiv also restart later in August.

The original city of Akmola (then Astana from 1998, and from 2019 Nur-Sultan) became the capital of Kazakhstan in 1997, and since then has developed economically into one of the most modern cities in Central Asia. On 23 March 2019, following a unanimous vote in Kazakhstan's parliament, the city was renamed Nur-Sultan, after former Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev.

The services will initially be flown four times a week, increasing to a daily frequency by September.  Flights will be operated using the latest Airbus A321LR aircraft, with flight times being 6hr 20min outbound to Frankfurt and 5hr 45min on the return to Nur-Sultan. Air Astana resumed its domestic network in May.

Air Astana’s fleet of A321LR aircraft boast 16 flat-bed Business Class seats and 150 Economy class seats furnished with personalized inflight entertainment screens. The flight between Nur-Sultan and Frankfurt is operated in a codeshare partnership with Lufthansa.

In accordance with German health regulations, all passengers (except those in transit) travelling to Germany from Kazakhstan must undertake a Covid-19 test at the point of departure within 48 hours of departure, or within 72 hours of entering Germany. Passengers will also be required to fill out two copies of a ‘passenger locator card’ during the flight. Passengers arriving to Kazakhstan should familiarize themselves with government health and quarantine regulations.

BTN is correct. In 1997, the government moved the capital to Astana (renamed Nur-Sultan on 23 March 2019) from Almaty (once Alma-Ata), Kazakhstan's largest city, where it had been established under the Soviet Union.

Dear BTNews, I am surprised by your stating that Astana is resuming flights from Capital city Nur-Sulktan to Frankfurt because my books read Astana being the Capital city of Kazakhstan and Nur-Sultan Nazarbaïev the former president (1991-2015)... Very Best Regards - JMP.
