River Oak Strategic Partners disappointment back in the Spring (See BTN 25 May) of a delay regarding a DfT decision on the reopening and development of Manston Airport in Kent is no longer valid. Last week the Secretary of State for Transport, Grant Shapps gave the go-ahead for the £300m cargo hub project.
The airport will be able to handle at least 10,000 air cargo movements a year while also offering passenger, executive travel and aircraft engineering services. The plan to restart short-haul and cargo flights in spring 2023.
River Oak Director Tony Freudmann said: "Once built, Manston will be one of the most modern, efficient and environmentally friendly freight hubs in the world.
"We can now focus on investing in Thanet and east Kent, creating jobs, and inspiring new generations through our active support for training, education and careers advice for all age groups."
With a single 2,748m runway the airport can handle all specialist freight aircraft currently in service but is limited with all up weight.
There will now be a six-week period in which a claim for judicial review can be made to the High Court.
