Budget hotel for Kings Cross

A new budget hotel has opened in Tavistock Place, London, a five-minute walk from Kings Cross Station with bed rates starting at an astonishing £16.20 (shared).

A so-called private room (with bathroom) starts at £55. No need to go out for breakfast. The property offers a cafe.

Called Generator, and already established in many European cities including Amsterdam, Berlin, Paris and Vienna, the property opens on 4 July, and is a 2-star crossover between a basic hotel and hostel, a style that is becoming increasingly popular on the Continent.  There are a variety of rooms available including twins with bunks and single beds and dormitories for up to 12 (although how this works out in these restricted times remains to be seen – Editor.  BTN plans to make a visit once London opens up again properly).

Styling is said to be contemporary “Designed to reflect the city’s street life, we’ve used reclaimed timber, exposed brickwork and hot-rolled black steel to give the hostel an on-trend, industrial feel.”  When it comes to hygiene Generator is very aware of its social responsibly with strong guidelines to deal with Covid-19.

In the first para, is that a shared room or a shared bed? If the latter, can you choose your partner for the night?
