ExCeL re-opening

Business event organisers are hoping to soon resume shows at a re-opened ExCeL London, including the British-Irish Airports EXPO for which BTN is the official media partner.

The exhibition complex, close by London City Airport, is developing an “Open for Business” guide produced in association with key stakeholders. The guide focuses on “10 guiding principles” for hosting events safely.

These include intensified risk assessments in the planning, build-up, open period, and breakdown – for instance floorplans will ensure adequate aisle space for any required social distancing and crowd densities, as well as the set-up of conference areas and meeting rooms, with all measures based on the government guidance at the time.

To minimise queuing and contact during registration, all delegates, visitors, and exhibitor stand crew will need to pre-register to attend any event with guests advised to bring their own face mask – therefore access could be restricted for walk-ins.

The plan is for ExCeL ventilation to be increased in line with latest CIBSE (Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers) guidance, and as with similar centres, covering all aspects of hygiene.

“This is just what we needed,” said Paul Hogan, Director of the British-Irish Airports EXPO in a call to discuss media strategy with BTN. “With up to six events taking place simultaneously at ExCeL it is vital that the venue took overall responsibility for how biosecurity is managed – furthermore it is going to help everyone if this "All Secure Standard" does indeed become the benchmark for facilities nationwide. As a result we are now looking forward to welcoming the UK and Irish airports industry to ExCeL London in October with renewed confidence.”
