Air Astana in Heathrow move

Heathrow Terminal 2 will be the home of Air Astana when its London flights are resumed.  They are currently stood down.

The national airline of Kazakhstan Air Astana is a joint venture between Kazakhstan's sovereign wealth fund Samruk-Kazyna (51%), and BAE Systems Plc (49%). President and CEO since 2005 is Peter Foster, formerly of Cathay Pacific and Royal Brunei.   The airline typically operates a five times weekly non-stop service from Heathrow to Nur-Sultan (formerly Astana), the capital of the country, with a two-class Boeing 757, with convenient onward connections to second city Almaty.  The airline is looking forward to introducing its all new Airbus A321LR on its European services, including London, later this summer.

While its European flights are not being flown currently, at the request of the Kazakhstan Embassy in London Air Astana operated a repatriation flight last week into London for Kazakhstan citizens.  This was the first time that one of the airline’s A321neo’s had visited London.   On board were 95 passengers.    The airline also operated a dedicated cargo flight with a B767-300 into Heathrow on 16 April.

Next Wednesday (22 April) and the following Wednesday (29 April) will see Amsterdam –Oral (Uralsk) flights (western Kazakhstan) operate.  Some ad hoc services from Amsterdam to Atyrau on the Caspian Sea are also anticipated.
