Blue Islands wins lifeline route

As the unprecedented COVID-19 situation continues and only essential travel is now permitted, the Government of Jersey has contracted with Blue Islands to maintain lifeline links between Jersey and the UK.  Initially the airline, owned by Healthspan Group, will provide a three times weekly service between the island and Southampton.

Senator Lyndon Farnham, Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Economic Development, Tourism, Sport and Culture said: “Maintaining lifeline air links during the pandemic are imperative to ensure access to and from the island for essential work, medical and compassionate grounds. I would like to thank Blue Islands and commend all those working on the front line to maintain these essential services.”

The Government of Jersey requires that passengers wishing to book these services provide additional information via blueislands.com to identify the purpose for travel such as essential worker status or for medical, repatriation and compassionate reasons. They will then provide eligible travellers with a unique code to book a qualifying seat on the airline's website.

Blue Islands has confirmed that it is still in discussion with Cornwall County Council as delegated by the Department for Transport regarding a temporary Heathrow – Newquay service.

The Council would appear to have an obligation to award the route to the airline since no other carrier will commit.  Prior to London City Airport closing the airline provided services to London from Jersey.
