Guidance for dog owners
The Kennel Club has developed a range of guidance for dog owners, who may be particularly concerned about caring for and exercising their dogs during the coronavirus pandemic.
The advice has been given in line with the Government's guidance and is constantly updated.
In total, 40% of the UK population own a pet according to the major German research agency Statista. Over 90% of pet owners in the UK say that owning a pet makes them feel happy and 88% feel that pet ownership improves their overall quality of life.
This statistic shows a ranking of the leading pets owned by households in the UK in 2018 and 2019, based on running totals sourced over two years. The most popular individual pet owned in the UK is the dog, with 25% of people owning one.
