Aer Lingus and Ireland news

The Irish flag carrier, rather like sibling British Airways, both part of IAG, continues to be reluctant in publishing details of its planned operations but it is thought to be grounding most of the long-range fleet except for mercy flights and special cargo flights including China.

Irish health officials are not carrying out temperature checks/screening at Irish airports as the Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HPSC), the country’s specialist agency, has said it is not an appropriate control measure at this time. Officials note that this type of airport screening is not recommended by either the World Health Organization or by European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control.

Dublin Airport remains open to assist with the repatriation of Irish citizens from abroad and to ensure the import and export of vital medical supplies and other essential goods and cargo.

Cork, Shannon, and also Belfast City and Londonderry airports remain open, the two Northern Ireland operations serving Heathrow and Southend respectively.  Ireland West airport is closed.

Stobart Air, contracted to fly Aer Lingus Regional services, said it has decided to operate a significantly reduced schedule which will result in temporary layoffs if it will continue to operate its public service obligation (PSO) routes from Dublin to Kerry and Dublin to Donegal, which it said will maintain "vital" domestic connectivity for passengers.
