A somewhat premature closing.
On 24 November 2008, the final take-off took place at Berlin's historic Tempelhof Airport, its closure part of the plan to open the new Willy Brandt Brandenburg Airport (BER), a development of the East Berlin Schönefeld operation.
It now seems BER will at last open on 8 November 2020 (why not on the IATA changeover date of 31 October, BTN asks?)
Clearly Tempelhof’s closure was somewhat premature to say the least: 12 years early, in fact.
The same happened in East London, but at this time the result is not so good.
The Elizabeth Line is yet to open and readers are reminded the Silvertown-for-London-City North London Line station closed in 2006. It has not been replaced due to intransigence by Crossrail management. There is still hope.
