A programme to encourage long-haul travellers to extend Madrid stopovers from one to six nights, with special deals on hotels, transport, dining, entertainment and other services was launched last week by Iberia and the city council.
The partners say the Stopover Hola Madrid package, presented by mayor José Luis Martínez-Almeida and Iberia executive chairman Luis Gallego, aims to attract more visitors, strengthening Iberia’s Madrid hub and driving demand for Iberia’s long-haul flights.
Martínez-Alameda said: “The Madrid council will be always supporting to those whose objective is keeping the city as an economic, social and cultural reference among capitals in the world.
“Madrid is a dynamic city and thanks to its business network is the region with the best GDP in Spain. We want to strengthen our public-private collaboration and enhance business leadership in Madrid”.
Gallego stressed his airline’s conviction that Madrid was “a top business centre as well as one of our best tourist destinations” with Iberia offering flights from the city to more than 100 international destinations.
“This is our flight distribution centre, our hub, and our home, and we want our customers to stay here,” he added.
