The former Whiteleys department store in London’s Bayswater is to be transformed into the first UK property for the Bangkok-based Six Senses hotel brand, part of the InterContinental Hotels Group. Scheduled opening date is 2023.
With its proximity to Hyde Park and Kensington Palace, Bayswater is recognised for its streets lined with grand terraces of white stucco houses and garden squares, plus the iconic Whiteleys building.
The hotel, wellness club and spa will open with 110 guest rooms and suites, starting from 355sq ft (33sq m) and celebrating the building’s origins, while making space for modern living.
Six Senses is also planning 14 branded residences, with the owners able to tap into all the privileges that come with a Six Senses home including bespoke interior design, concierge service, dining, housekeeping and wellness programming.
Six Senses Hotels Resorts Spas CEO Neil Jacobs, said: “I grew up in the Whiteleys neighbourhood and used to visit with my parents. This is an opportunity to pay homage to this heritage and bring our brand values to an historic part of London.”
