Finnair lounge expansion complete

The final phase of an expansion of non-Schengen lounge facilities by Finnair at Helsinki Airport has been completed with the opening of a new Business Class facility following the unveiling of the new Platinum Wing lounge last summer.

Showcasing contemporary Nordic design throughout, the unit offers a series of new spaces and upgraded food and beverage options while the combined complex provides 200 more seats than the facilities it replaces.

Finnair head of customer experience product design David Kondo said a lot of time was spent to understand how passengers use the lounges and their needs, which in turn informed the design of the spaces and services.

The result was a lounge that used Nordic simplicity, clean lines and natural materials to offer a variety of zones and seating styles and provide users with different options on how to spend their time.

Seating is broken up into a variety of “pockets” aligned to different customer needs and activities – the deeper guests go into the lounge, the quieter and more private it becomes.

Another feature is a new Nordic menu tailored to international tastes, with food prepared in a new open-kitchen concept coupled with a dedicated dining area. A full-service bar operates at peak times and other drinks stations are dotted throughout.
