A special campaign broke last week further detailing 12 specific reasons why people should support Southampton Airport’s planning application submitted last month to extend its runway by 164m.
Airport owner AGS says the development, which includes adding 600 spaces to the long-stay car park, would allow passenger numbers to rise by 150% over the next 20 years. Measures would be put in place to mitigate the impact on noise and carbon emissions.
The application represents the first phase of growth outlined in the airport's masterplan A Vision For Sustainable Growth and the new campaign will use social media for followers and passengers to share and engage with each other.
Airport managing director Neil Garwood said: “With our crucial planning application just submitted to Eastleigh Borough Council, we thought it was a great time to share with current and prospective passengers and neighbours the many advantages this runway extension will bestow to both Southampton and the south coast as a whole.
“Our '12 Reasons to Love Southampton' Airport campaign will be running up till just before Christmas on all social media channels as well as on display screens within the airport.
“People can also show their love and support by visiting and commenting on the planning application which is now live on the Eastleigh Council website."
