Lufthansa Group names new chiefs

New bosses for two member airlines were named last week by the executive board of the Lufthansa Group, with Dieter Vranckx becoming CEO of Brussels Airlines from1 January and Jens Bischof taking over as Eurowings chairman on 1 March.

Vranckx, 46, a Belgian native, succeeds Christina Foerster. He has been chief financial officer and deputy CEO of Brussels Airlines’ management board since May 2018 and has held several senior positions at Deutsche Lufthansa AG since 2001.

These included responsibility for the group’s sales and marketing activities in the Asia-Pacific region, operating out of Singapore and before that acting as vice-president at Swiss WorldCargo with responsibility for Asia and Africa.

At Eurowings, Bischof, 54, currently CEO of SunExpress, is taking over the leadership of Germany’s second-largest airline and the third-largest point-to-point carrier in Europe, with an expected 38m-plus passengers this year.

He began his career with the group in 1990, holding several leadership positions including managing the passenger business of Lufthansa in North and South America.

He was also responsible for the global sales organisation as a member of the executive board and chief commercial officer at Lufthansa Passage. He has been CEO of Sun Express for the past three years.
