Festive Heathrow November record

Ahead of an expected rush over the festive period, Heathrow recorded its busiest November so far with more than 6.2m passengers travelling through the airport, a 0.9% increase over November 2018.

Passengers heading to the US to celebrate Thanksgiving helped push up traffic figures on the back of new services. These included British Airways and American introducing new links to Pittsburgh and increased flights on a number of routes.

Delta and Virgin increased frequency to Boston and Detroit and started flights to Las Vegas, while Heathrow kept up the emphasis on the US in the Arrivals halls in November by surprising passengers with hundreds of Thanksgiving pumpkin pies.

Meanwhile, the airport has unveiled festive periscopes at Terminals 2 and 5 so children – and adults – can see for themselves for the first time the inner workings of Santa’s incredible logistical feat of delivering presents worldwide in one night.

Special 360deg films through the periscopes show viewers the elvish activity taking place right underneath them – with scenes from Santa’s toy factory, department of wrapping and mail room acted out by Heathrow staff.

The scenes reveal Heathrow’s long-held secret: that Santa, like many others around the world, relies on the UK’s hub airport to get to where he needs to be.
