Virgin links up with WestJet

Direct connections to four key airports and onward links to 28 domestic connections in Canada are now available to Virgin Atlantic passengers after the airline signed a new codeshare partnership with WestJet.

Virgin’s executive vice president, commercial, Juha Jarvinen said: “We’re committed to working with the best airline partners around the world and we’re delighted to add WestJet to our growing portfolio.

“This new partnership will open up a plethora of Canadian destinations to our customers and offer more choice for those looking to fly directly to Canada with the security and ease of booking through a codeshare.”

The third-largest carrier on the UK – Canada market, WestJet flies year-round from Gatwick to Calgary and Toronto and offers services from Gatwick to Halifax and Vancouver in the summer season.

Further destinations passengers can connect to on the new partnership include Montreal, Quebec, Edmonton and Deer Lake.

■ Also on the partnership front, a report at the weekend suggested the Virgin Group wants to retain control of Virgin Atlantic and cancel a previously-announced joint-venture deal to sell 31% of the airline to Air France-KLM. There was no immediate comment from Virgin.
