Ryanair summer boost for Southend

A total of 16 routes are being offered by Ryanair out of Southend for summer 2020 including six new to Bergerac, Bucharest, Girona, Marseille, Venice Treviso and Vilnius.

The carrier says the schedule, which starts next April will deliver 850,000 annual passengers and support 635 jobs at the airport this year.

The schedule delivers deliver three brand new routes – Bergerac (three a week), Girona (two) and Marseille (two) – and three new summer services to Bucharest (five a week), Venice Treviso (four) and Vilnius (three).

Ryanair said its early announcement meant Southend consumers and visitors could book their flights on the 16 routes as far out as next October, flying on the lowest fares and with the major airline in Europe with the lowest CO2 emissions.

Ryanair’s Alejandra Ruiz said: Since the start of our operations in London Southend in April, we have carried more than 650,000 customers, and based on this success we are delighted to extend our services here with six new routes for summer 2020."

Glyn Jones, CEO of Southend Airport owner Stobart Aviation, said: “Summer 2020 is gearing up to be our biggest yet as passengers continue to appreciate our direct rail and bus links into central London and the fast check-in and security experience.”
