Iberia seals China deal with Hainan

Spain and China have moved a little closer after Iberia last week announced a new codeshare agreement with Hainan Airlines, giving Iberia passengers a direct route from Madrid to Shenzhen.

In addition, with direct Iberia flights from Madrid to Shanghai, passengers can now continue to five other cities in China – Haikou, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Beijing and Xi'an.

For its part, Hainan Airlines also adds to its network 20 Iberia destinations in Spain, Italy and Portugal. In Spain, they include Barcelona, Malaga, Seville, Bilbao, Jerez and Santiago; in Italy, Turin, Milan and Bologna, and Porto in Portugal.

The agreement also means passengers of both airlines will be able to fly with their whole itinerary on a single ticket and have more flight options and rebooking guarantees in case of loss of connection, among advantages.

Iberia network development director Maria Jesús López Solás said: "This agreement with Hainan Airlines is a great step to expand our network of destinations in China and achieve greater access to this market.”

Hainan vice-president Liu Jichun added: “We always seek opportunities to provide more options to passengers and are delighted to work with Iberia and offer our customers their recognised service and product on routes between China and Spain.”
