Sahara rises again in Las Vegas

One of the most iconic names in Las Vegas has returned with the former SLS Las Vegas resort regaining its original identity as Sahara Las Vegas under the new ownership of Cuban-American billionaire businessman Alex Meruelo.

Since Meruelo bought the property in April 2018, the resort has undergone a $150m (£120m) overhaul including an updated casino floor, premium gaming lounge, renovated rooms, suites and corridors and an upgraded spa.

Major updates to the resort exterior continue as remodelling of the main porte-cochère began earlier this month, while a full renovation of the resort’s main pool is scheduled for later this autumn.

“The return of Sahara Las Vegas is significant for the city,” Meruelo said. “The reimagining brings an enhanced guest experience that runs contrary to the megaresorts that have recently dominated the landscape here.

“At Sahara, guests will be greeted with a customised welcome set within a fully-modern, dynamic resort. People come to Las Vegas to create memories, and we plan to help them with personalised service that makes everyone feel special.”

The resort, which includes 1,600 hotel rooms and suites, is four miles from McCarran International Airport, a mile from the Las Vegas Convention Centre and three miles from the Fremont Street Experience mall.
