EasyJet in fine voice

New technology which enables travellers to search for flights using voice recognition is set to be introduced by easyJet soon with a feature on its app called Speak Now. The carrier will be the first airline to offer it.

EasyJet says the development will offer passengers a simple way to find the flights they want. The system is powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology and uses Dialogflow, natural language understanding tool from Google Cloud.

The feature will ask audible questions to determine a passenger’s booking criteria,  enabling it to narrow down details such as destination, date and departure airports. Typing a search query typically takes 12 taps but Speak Now is claimed to do it in seconds.

The system will be available in English on iOS and comes on the back of other recent innovations easyJet has developed including Look&Book, a visual search tool using images from Instagram, and a cabin bag-sizer tool.

Head of digital experience Daniel Young said: “We are constantly looking to improve the travel experience we offer passengers and make booking a flight more accessible, especially those visually impaired, and Speak Now helps us achieve this.”
