The Dutch hotel group CitizenM is planning a fourth London property after demolishing a former office block near Victoria Station. Work will begin in November and the hotel will have 226 rooms in a 10-storey block.
The property will be built using CitizenM’s modular construction method with each of the rooms put together and furnished in an offsite factory and then moved to the site to be assembled.
The company, which already has hotels in Shoreditch, Bankside and by the Tower of London, says prefabrication enables faster construction and easier quality control, and also guides the architectural aesthetic of all its locations.
“No matter how they’re assembled, citizenM buildings are recognisable in their surroundings for their identifiably square units, clean lines, and artwork on the facades,” it added.
“With three hotels already operating successfully in London, the new property will offer a fantastic addition to our existing portfolio and confirms our commitment to expand further in London’s most desirable neighbourhoods.”
London is one of the key target sites earmarked for expansion by citizenM. Others in Europe include Paris, Milan, Rome, Dublin, Munich, Hamburg, Frankfurt, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Zurich, Geneva and Barcelona.
