Wizz joins the Southend family

A new operation at Southend Airport offering flights from November to Bucharest and Vilnius, plus the launch of two new services to Western Europe from its base at Luton were announced last week by Wizz Air.

The airline said the Southend opening would create more than 100 indirect jobs and meant Wizz Air would now operate from three London airports – Luton, where the airline claims to be the largest tenant, plus Gatwick and the Essex hub.

The two new routes from Luton are to Castellón, between Benicàssim and Valencia, and Vienna, the first time Wizz has connected its UK network with Spain and Austria.

The four new services mean Wizz now has almost 11m seats on sale on its 106 routes from 12 UK airports to Europe and beyond, representing a 24% growth year on year.

UK managing director Owain Jones said: “It is exciting to see Wizz Air painting the skies pink at Southend as we expand our footprint across the Greater London airports.

“The new routes from Southend and Luton demonstrate Wizz Air is committed to offering passengers ultra-low fares to destinations across the whole of Europe, connecting the UK with cultural and business hubs and off-the-beaten track destinations.”
