The only airshow in the capital, London Biggin Hill Airport’s Festival of Flight 2019 is set to inspire the next generation this coming weekend, 17-18 August, as the past and present of aviation take to the skies.
More than 30,000 visitors are expected to watch 12 multi-aircraft groups and 54 aircraft scheduled to appear, including displays by the Breitling Jet Team, Tiger 9 (below) and the Royal Jordanian Falcons, and the latest fighter jets such as the RAF Typhoon.
The biggest gathering of warbirds yet seen at the event will also this year honour the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings, with a special show from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.
On the ground, visitors can tour an extensive static display of aircraft and a Vintage Village Marquee and Motoring Village while the London Biggin Hill Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) exhibition will provide activities to inspire fliers of the future.
Biggin Hill provides career opportunities in aviation through an apprenticeship programme and STEM school visits and this month is also breaking ground for the London Aerospace & Technology College to tackle the aviation skills shortage and leave a lasting legacy for the local community.
