British Airways today (Monday) is to introduce its first Airbus A350 at Heathrow with a training flight to Madrid including some media. However, it is Virgin Atlantic which is expected to take the prestigious prize of a New York first with the Rolls-Royce-powered aircraft’s maiden JFK from London arrival on 10 September.
VS153 is scheduled to leave LHR at 13:30, arriving at JFK at 16:25, with the return set to depart at 19:00 and arriving at Heathrow at 07:20 the next morning. Initially, the A350 flight will operate six times weekly. (All times local).

Assuming British Airways goes ahead with its A350 press jolly lunchtime today it ought to be ashamed of itself. Presuming it has lost around 90 services (its pro rata number of the 177 flights cancelled) the Heathrow to Madrid media slot needed to be given over to regular services. The ‘training’ flight should have been cancelled. The customer comes first.
