A rebrand for Flybe is expected shortly after the European Commission on Friday removed the final hurdle in the sale of the airline to Connect Airways by granting official approval of the deal.
Connect was founded last December by a consortium of Virgin Atlantic Airways, the Stobart Group and Cyrus Capital to acquire Flybe after the Exeter-based airline issued a profits warning and put itself up for sale a month earlier.
In a statement announcing the EC decision and listing the benefits to passengers of the acquisition, Connect added: “Work is also under way to develop an exciting new brand and customer proposition, which will be announced in due course.”
The group said with Connect taking over full management control of the business, Connect CEO Mark Anderson and the Flybe and Stobart leadership teams would now “focus on plans to grow Flybe’s regional network, as well as expanding Stobart Air’s successful franchise business”.
Anderson added: “I couldn’t be more excited by the opportunity we have to build a strong platform in the UK and to grow our franchise flying operation in Ireland. Our whole team is focused on redefining the experience for our customers.”
