A new four-times-weekly service to Porto and resumption of flights to Khartoum have been announced by Emirates. The daily flights to Khartoum are restarting today, 8 July, after being suspended a month ago because of political unrest in Sudan.
Emirates senior vice-president for commercial operations Africa Orhan Abbas said the service provided business and leisure travellers in Sudan with global connectivity through the Emirates network with one convenient flight connection at the Dubai hub.
Key destinations for travellers from Sudan included Dubai and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, plus, Malaysia, China, the UK and the US, he added. “This will help support local business and increase access to international markets.”
Porto is Emirates’ second destination in Portugal after Lisbon and its first to the north of the country. The airline is using a two-class Boeing B777-200LR including 38 lie-flat seats in Business Class in a 2+2+2 configuration and 264 seats in Economy.
Senior vice-president for Europe Thierry Auroc said passengers in northern Portugal now had a convenient and direct flight option to the Dubai hub while the new service would also contribute further to the economic growth of Porto and the wider Northern Region.
