More new routes from Luton – to Bergen in Norway, Thessaloniki in Greece and Finland’s oldest city, Turku – have been announced by Wizz Air UK as the airline celebrates the first anniversary of its launch.
Bergen is a Unesco World Heritage city while Thessaloniki is known as a busy port and business city. Turku is also a leading business as well as leisure centre. Flights will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
Wizz Air UK, the wholly-owned subsidiary of Wizz Air Holdings Plc, says it is set this summer to become the largest airline at Luton, with a 41% market share. It currently has more than 8.5m seats on sale on 59 routes, a 22% year on year growth.
Since launching last summer, the Wizz Air UK fleet of Airbus A320 and Airbus A321 aircraft has grown from one based aircraft to 11, supporting some 8,000 jobs in the local area.
All Wizz Air flights are operated on the Airbus fleet, with the A320 offering 180 seats, the A321 with 230 and the A321neo with 239 seats. The airline has also launched a search for "young and ambitious" cabin crew for the Luton operation.
