United boost for San Francisco

Boosting its status as the largest carrier at San Francisco International Airport, United Airlines last week announced a second daily non-stop service between the US West Coast hub and Hong Kong from 26 October.

United said the move would be particularly beneficial to business travellers, with passengers now having the choice of midday or late-night departures from both airports.

International network vice-president Patrick Quayle said the extra flight would give customers between two of the world’s largest business markets “more flexibility and convenience”.

The new evening departure from San Francisco gives customers a morning arrival in Hong Kong to start their day and the new evening departure from Hong Kong will arrive into San Francisco in the evening.

The two flights combined will offer passengers more options to connect to 80 destinations beyond San Francisco as United continues to build on its West Coast presence.

The airline this year started non-stop seasonal service from San Francisco to Amsterdam and extended Auckland, New Zealand and Tahiti services to year-round operations.

United also began a second daily flight to Seoul and twice-daily service to Toronto. In October, the carrier will begin seasonal non-stop service to Melbourne, followed by a new seasonal service to New Delhi in December.
