AND FINALLY: Taking to drink

Arrival in the UK at the weekend of the “Saharan bubble” heatwave caused BTN to wonder how that standby of the travel industry the local tavern might be faring.#

According to managed pub company and brewer Greene King, the answer is not bad, with an eye-watering 31m pints of beer expected to have been drunk in locals and beer gardens between Friday lunchtime and last night.

And as for food, the survey found two fifths of the nation would choose a salad (40%) to accompany their drinks, over the nation’s favourite pub classic, fish and chips (21%).
