Great Dane lands in Edinburgh

A new regional carrier arrived at Edinburgh last week after start-up company Great Dane Airlines began a twice-weekly Monday and Thursday service from Aalborg to the Scottish capital using ex-Flybe 118-seat ERJ-195s.

It is the only UK service operated by Great Dane and the only one in the UK outside London to Aalborg. The airline has also launched services to Dublin (below) and Nice.

Aalborg becomes the third Danish route offered from Edinburgh, joining services to Copenhagen (16 flights a week) and Billund (two). With the addition of the 508mi sector, no other airport in Scotland serves more destinations in Denmark than Edinburgh.

Great Dane founder and CEO Thomas Hugo Møller said: "Services to Edinburgh mark another step towards achieving our mission of bringing increased connectivity to Northern Jutland.

"Edinburgh was an obvious choice, along with Dublin and Nice, for our first scheduled services, fitting into our strategy of flying to popular destinations which have previously been too thin to support profitable narrow-body operations."

Edinburgh Airport aviation director Jonathan Rayner added:  “We’re adding another destination and another airline to our list and – as an airport that seeks to grow through choice – we are happy to bring Aalborg and Great Dane Airlines on board.”
