The cost of inflight snacks and drinks on European low-cost carriers has been found to vary widely in a new survey carried out by travel platform fromAtoB to identify who the company called the worst offenders for over-pricing.
Current prices for beer, food and other beverages were surveyed with airlines scrutinised including easyJet, Ryanair, Wizz Air, Eurowings, TUIfly, Air Baltic and Norwegian.
Flights to and from Germany were found to offer best value in beer, with a 330ml can costing £2.67 (€3) with Eurowings and TUIfly. EasyJet charged £5.36 (€6), and Ryanair £4.90 (€5.50).
The biggest price difference was in soft drinks. A can cost £2.22 (€2.50) – £2.67 (€3) but portion sizes vary, meaning with Ryanair it costs £8.90 (€10) a litre, compared with £5.36 (€6) a litre on TUIfly.
For sandwiches, WizzAir was cheapest at £3.56 (€4). Eurowings charges £4.45 (€5) for a chicken roll, Norwegian £5.79 (€6.50) for a club sandwich. The study said almost all airlines offer a combined menu that often includes a sandwich, drink and snack.
WizzAir offered the cheapest at £5.35 (€6) – £7.57 (€8.50). TUIfly offered the best overall value with all items on the menu totalling £31.93 (€35.84) while Norwegian’s menu totalled £46.39 (€52.09).
