A first hotel in Jamaica for the AC Hotels by Marriott European lifestyle brand opened last week with a 219-room property in Kingston. The brand was founded by hotelier Antonio Catalan in 1998 in Spain, joining Marriott International in 2011.
With existing locations including France, Denmark, the US, Latin America and Puerto Rico, the brand aims for what AC calls sophisticated but unpretentious style with innovative food and beverage menus with locally-inspired influences.
Features at the Kingston property include more than 18,000sq ft of meeting and banquet facilities, the largest in the city; 24hr fitness centre; outdoor pool; the brand’s signature AC Kitchen, and the AC Lounge for co-working and socialising.
Throughout the hotel, AC’s second in the Caribbean after the San Juan Condado in Puerto Rico, guests will also find a collection of artworks produced by Jamaican artists and one-of-a-kind furnishings that have also been locally made.
Marriott International vice-president Toni Stoeckl said: “We’re delighted to welcome our first AC Hotel to Jamaica to offer guests a modern aesthetic and intuitive service, and an opportunity to relax.”
The hotel is also part of Marriott’s new Bonvoy loyalty programme launched in February this year to replace the Marriott Rewards, Ritz-Carlton Rewards and Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) schemes.
