London City holiday airport

British Airways' London City Airport-based Cityflyer has published figures which show that the Docklands airport is fast becoming the preferred holiday getaway point for many in the metropolis.

This summer, the full-service airline will be offering up to five flights a day to Ibiza. It is very busy.

Last Friday, Cityflyer operated 26 services between 06:40 and 10:45 varying from the Isle of Man to the Greek island of Santorini.

While rumours continued regarding new aircraft for the airline, possibly to coincide with the completion of the airport redevelopment, BTN has learnt at the Paris Airshow that no announcement is likely to be made until towards the end of the year, if then.

In the meantime, the high profile route to JFK via Shannon continues to suffer, with the numbers down to 10,514 for 2018 (-12%) and a similar fall for the year to April in figures just published by the CAA. The 32-seat Airbus A318 takes 9hr 25min outbound via Shannon and 7hr 25min on the return, slightly slower than Heathrow but with LCY it is easy to be in the City in a little over 30min from landing. BTN last reported on the prestigious service in September 2012.

For the future, the Airbus A220-100 can reach New York non-stop with 44 proper lie-flat seats.
