Known for its colourful architecture, restaurants and active creative scene, the northwest Portugal coastal city of Porto has welcomed a new boutique property, the 68-room Vila Foz Hotel and Spa. Housed in a 19th-century manor house, it is opening early next month.
Overlooking the Atlantic, the building is in Porto’s affluent Foz do Douro neighbourhood, known for its wide range of restaurants and chic boutiques, as well as the 17th century Castelo do Queijo fortress.
Nearby attractions include the Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art and Portugal's largest urban garden, the City Park, a few minutes’ walk away and boasting 10 miles of trails, lakes, diverse fauna and flora and direct access to the beach.
The design-led hotel embodies a visual concept created by Madeiran designer Nini Andrade Silva with features including fine dining master-minded by executive chef Arnaldo Azevedo, plus a spa and wellness area. For more informal dining, the Flor de Lis restaurant offers regional dishes.
The spa offers a range of therapy rooms, a Turkish bath and sauna, an indoor pool and an outdoor relaxation area surrounded by landscaped gardens and a selection of traditional and holistic treatments.
• Porto will be featured in BTN’s ON TOUR column next week.
