Level opens Amsterdam base

New services from Amsterdam to Luton, Rome Fiumcino and Vienna have joined the network of International Airline Group’s newest airline, Level, after it opened its latest base at Schiphol last week.

All the routes are being operated by Airbus A320/A321s registered in Austria with Level taking over most of the current routes from Amsterdam operated by Vueling, another IAG carrier.

This summer, additional Vueling frequencies will also be transferred to Level on routes to Barcelona, Fuerteventura, Lisbon and Milan-Malpensa.

Amsterdam Schiphol is now Level’s second short-haul base beside Vienna. The Vienna unit will continue to operate with three to four Airbus A320/321s and maintenance of the Amsterdam-based aircraft will take place in Vienna.

At Luton, Level’s arrival was welcomed as the airline launched its six-days-a-week schedule, reinforcing the Dutch capital’s status as the airport’s most popular destination. More than 72,000 passengers flew from Luton to Amsterdam in March.

IAG has steadily increased its presence at Luton since the Vueling subsidiary began flying from there in 2016. Level said it expected more than 50,000 passengers to travel with the airline from there this year.
