An expansion of its UK network with the launch of flights from Manchester Airport to Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen on 1 July was announced last week by Turkish carrier Pegasus Airlines.

Manchester will be its second base in the UK after Stansted. The flights will connect Manchester Airport to 32 destinations across Turkey and 39 international destinations including Abu Dhabi, Amman, Bahrain, Doha, Dubai, Hurghada, Muscat, North Cyprus, Riyadh, Sharm El Sheikh, Tbilisi and Tel Aviv.

The new route will operate five days a week on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays, with connections to further destinations across Turkey, including coastal, cultural and gourmet hotspots such as Antalya, Bodrum and Izmir.

With the launch of the Manchester route, Pegasus will fly services to 35 destinations in Turkey and 72 in the rest of the world, bringing its total network to 107 destinations in 40 countries.

COO Güliz Öztürk said: "The UK is among our key markets in Europe. We operate thrice-daily flights from Stansted to Istanbul with additional direct flights to Izmir Airport up to four times a week in summer.

"Since the launch of our scheduled flights from Stansted we have flown more than 2.7m guests from and to the UK and we're confident the new Manchester flights will be warmly welcomed by our future guests in northern England.”
