Chicago non-stop in line at El Al

A new non-stop route between Israel and Chicago and the launch of a new worldwide taxi-sharing service for passengers of all airlines were making the news for El Al last week.

The new Chicago service will operate three times a week from March next year using the Boeing B787 Dreamliner in three-class layout of Business, Premium and Economy.

Flights will depart Chicago on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays with an 11hr 10min flight time. Westbound departures will also be on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays with a flying time of 12hr 45min.

Vice-president commercial affairs Michael Strassburger said: “We are pleased to announce nonstop flights between Chicago and Israel following customer demand and our renewal programme to add 16 Dreamliners to our fleet.”

The taxi development, which El Al says is the first of its kind in the aviation world, has been launched in response to complaints about the high cost of travel between airports and hotels, the airline said.

Passengers register on a designated mobile site and the service helps to find additional passengers arriving at the same airport at the same time with whom they can share a taxi as they continue to destinations in same area in the city.
